Hi All

I'm riding down to Lands End from the above dates! I have said that I would do this this year and will make it happen!

I have a rough idea of my route and will cross the Severn Bridge - the old one I think! - any ideas or great roads gratefully recieved!

Will post more when I find accomodation and have a rough idea of where I will be rolling into ! I think I'll be B&B`ing or YHA'ing as I have no idea what the weather hold in store and I really want to enjoy my mini tour!

Will definately be going to Italy next year [2009] so any takers?

Will post more on this thread as and when!

Pete

Hi Pete and good luck, you'll be in my old haunts.

This is from 2005

Sunday morning 10:15.

Leaving home I head north towards Portreath and turn westerly towards Godrevy and Gwithian stopping to take a couple of piccies for you peeps near Navax Point.

The cliffs here are around 200 feet high and a favourite place for folks who've had enough!. Weather is excellent and around 19C with light breezes.

Riding past Gwithian I come down to Hayle and go through the town. There's not much happening but traffic is already quite heavy with holiday makers and locals alike, heading for the beaches. The next place is St Ives, sorry no pictures to busy and nowhere to park. The town is heaving and already the air is heavy with the smell of pasties baking and I'm filtering through bodies, some nice, some not so. :)

Leaving St Ives I get onto the Coast road again and head for Land's End.

The last time I was on this road was about 12 or 13 years ago and in a car The scenery is breath taking and a lump rises in my throat, I'm going to miss this when I move. More piccies entitled Morvah. The photos are taken from the roadside looking out over a patchwork of fields towards the Atlantic. I meet a few drivers, not many and a couple of bikes going in the opposite direction we wave or nod as we pass. There are plenty of cars parked and I assume the owners are again looking for beaches or just cliff walking. Loads of cyclists about, good lord they must be fit or mad. I follow the twisting road to Trewellard, Botallack and St Just. Then onwards through Kelynack (Kell-eye-nack) where it's rumoured that the last native Cornish speaking woman, Dolly Pentreath, lived. Again the roads are very twisty and I spend most of the time leant over. Through Sennen and down to Land's End where I turn and head for Porthcurnow where the first trans Atlantic cable came ashore. Roads are clogged so I don't stop and head for Penzance. Then it's a blast for home and dog walking.

Two and a half magical hours at no more that 45 ish until the blast home up the dual carriageway.

Good luck with the planning Peter.

Bob, your pics kicked in the memory muscle. Many is the time my 'NAVEX', (navigation exercise), has taken in these sights when training at Culdrose.

I miss all the sights when I'm driving the car. Too busy trying to avoid the 'Cornish Hedges'. Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

Am still looking at maps etc.... but where's the fun in that!

I'm thinking really being rebellious and just doing it on a wing & a prayer - I know that is not responsible but hey life ain't fair besides it will give me something to whinge about later on !!!!! when I return home !

If you want a great detour, follow the North Somerset coast and be sure to include Porlock Hill. A 1in4 with hairpin bends, fantastic!

In a moment of sheer madness- I just going to do it! being inspired by Wild Hogs Laughing very funny!

I thought that doing my trip on a wing and a prayer would be more exciting but my better half is going nuts! Where will you be staying how will I contact you after sitting here listening to her whine on for nearly an hour - I feel crushed! but bugger it I'm going to do it my way anyhow! Laughing Yes I'll probably end up sleeping in a ditch! and so many other imponderables!

Roll on 1st August

Icon_smile049 Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Way to go Peter.

In light of the fact my wife won't see this, and chances are I probably won't meet Peters nearest and dearest.

Sod the women, it's like sheds, they just don't understand.

I'm off to hide somewhere dark now, bye for a while!!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think finding accom for 1 is much easier on the last minute than trying to find accom for a bunch of you.

Enjoy your adventure - from a woman Cool

Okay my tourette is fast approaching I have decided to set off at about 3am - yes you have read that right 3am the reason to beat the traffic down past Birmingham! Apparently excellent progress can be made that early in the morning and the roads are deathly quiet !! Yes I'm figuring seeing three digit speeds ride to Somerset looks thrilling I just can't wait!

I can enjoy the wind on my face and the freedom of being off the grid for a while I have decided no credit cards just cash and the mobile will be turned on for long enough to recieve messages twice a day!

So anyone down that end the wood wanna meet for ride!???

Cheers
Pete

I hope to go home to Cornwall soon but it will probably be before your jaunt, Pete.

As you transit Devon, if you shout loud enough I may hear you on Fraggle.

But I doubt it. Wife says I don't listen when I should anyway!! Laughing Laughing
