My bike was 10months old when I was knocked off. The insurance put everybit right including parts that I didn't realise were scratched such as the very edge of the screen and end of the handle bars and brake lever - came to well over £2,000. I also claimed via the biker support for my helmet, coat, broken ribs, time I didn't have my bike for and my excess on my policy.

All that was accepted as his fault but my insurance took a big hike Sad

What really got to me was it was just 2 days before my renewal was due and so in fact I will have had two years without ncb.

Joyce,

Relieved to hear your insurance paid that much out. Betsy is 11 months old so similar condition I imagine. Can you give me the contact details for rider support please? As my trousers will be £80-100 to be repaired (£115 new online! but £140 from bikeshop) and I have excess to claim and I've got to buy more reflective strip from the States etc it might be worth trying. Haven't heard from the insurers yet. Not sure how long to wait before I start nagging. The assessors had the estimate from the dealer 12 days ago. At least I haven't lost use of the bike and the dealer looks to have given everything a rub over so it doesn't look so bad. Perhaps I'm just getting used to her battlescars!

I have to admit to being very nervous now. Need to go on a decent ride I think. Should have been doing a full bikesafe day today as opposed to just an assessed ride but it was cancelled due to lack of numbers. I'm glad as I'm not ready. Had a suicidal cat run in front of me Friday (13th!) and then 100 yards later a 4x4 came straight onto the roundabout and nearly got me broadside. Both within 100 yards of my accident scene. I'd ride a different route but it's the only road in and out of the estate!

Thanks,

Lazydaisy

Found out today that the insurers have Ok'd the repairs. I had to chase them and then I double checked that they had actually informed my dealer! They thought the insurers would have told me before them but the parts are on order and hopefully Betsy will her cosmetic surgery next week!
Perhaps once she's all better my rib will get better and I'll be less paranoid about animals and people jumping in front of me as they seem to do everytime I ride now. I need a good long run somewhere with no incidents to boost my self confidence!
Roll on next week!

Glad the insurers are sorting you out.

If you still need the rider support it is www.ridersupport.co.uk for their website. It is worth joining even if you don't have need of their services.

Betsy is in for her cosmetic surgery. Saw all the bits laid out ready for replacing. The headlamp unit is a sealed unit so the whole thing is being replaced for the scratches on the plastic! and some plastic missing on the edge. Surprised The screen was over £500 on it's own. Has anyone with a Burger 400 had to have the screen replaced by Suzuki and did it really cost that much??? Insurers have accepted the quote.
Be glad to get her back and will post before and after shots!

oh and the good news - the car insurance is due next month so when the renewal came through I rang to report the claim and they said they don't count motorcycle claims.... big sigh of relief!!! Laughing Laughing

Blimey £500 for a screen replaced!!! steep!!!

Don't know how much a screen is but fitting is easy. A series of rubber encased nuts and an equal number of screws!!!!

Would imagine a trained fitter could change it in 10 minutes. Takes me about 15!!! (Thats removing and fitting!!!!)

The joys of insurance. (No wonder premiums are so £££)

THat's just for the screen - the labour doesn't come into it yet.....
I changed it myself when I added the laminar lip. Got a screen from ebay for £13 (inc P&P) to cut down but put the lip on it instead. So I've got the spare original and the new screen which I'll keep until I need it or want to sell the bike. The damage is to the side and consists of scrapes.
I got to the point where I was thinking the damage wasn't too bad. Seeing the parts off the bike made me realise how deep the scrapes were so I'm glad I've gone for the claim. Probably won't be when the insurance is due next March..... Crying or Very sad
